- What is the vehicle age limit for importing a car into Peru?
- Used vehicles are admissible with age and mileage limits — about 5 years in practice. Peruvian law requires left-hand drive (timón a la izquierda), which rules out Japanese domestic stock.
- Do Chinese left-hand-drive cars work in Peru?
- Peru drives on the right, so a left-hand-drive car is the correct vehicle type: the steering wheel is on the side the road requires. Every car we ship is left-hand drive. Used vehicles are admissible within age and mileage limits — about five years in practice — and the vehicle must be left-hand drive as a matter of law. The customs value is checked against an official reference table, so a low declared invoice does not lower the assessment.
- Which port does a car from China clear at for Peru?
- Callao. Callao carries the region’s main RoRo and container volume from Asia. Registration and the initial technical inspection are separate steps after clearance and should be budgeted alongside the duty.
- How much does it cost to import a car from China to Peru?
- Customs charges on CIF — the vehicle price plus freight and insurance — and never on the invoice alone. Base duty is 6% of CIF. 1 further lines stack on top: IGV (VAT). Run the numbers through the landed-cost calculator and treat the result as a planning figure: the final figure exists only once customs assesses the specific vehicle.
- How do I know the car is as described before it ships?
- Every unit is photographed and videoed at the yard, and the walkaround goes to you before the balance is due. Loading is supervised, and a unit that fails the agreed specification at that point is stopped rather than shipped.
- Is it cheaper to ship one car or several to Peru?
- RoRo is the simplest option for a single unit. A 40ft container normally carries two to four cars, so once you have enough volume to fill one, the cost per car drops noticeably — and the vehicles are not exposed on deck. Both are quoted on request for this lane.
